The Director of Small Business Utilization Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Washington D.C. formalized and initiated the establishment of Small Business Councils in Northern, Central and Southern California. The Councils were established with members from various Federal agencies. In 1972, government prime contractors were added as participating members. In 1995, the Department of Defense established regional councils nation-wide. A letter dated January 25, 1967, to DCASR-LA (now DCMDW) from the Director of Small Business Utilization Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Washington DC, instructed DCASR to formalize and initiate the establishment of a Small Business Council in this area. The Council was established with twenty-seven (27) members from various Federal Agencies. In 1972, government prime contractors were added as participating members. The present council is comprised of approximately 255 federal and industry members. The Council is governed by four (4) officers and an Executive Board. There are three (3) Executive Advisors: the facilities advisor, legislative advisor and speaker advisor.
